Our story

From a father-and-son passion to Cape Town's premier club.

Clay Busters began when Sean Hart first picked up a shotgun here at 12, alongside his father Andy. By 19, at the 2022 World Championships, Sean outscored his own mentor by 26 clays. When their home range came up for sale, they didn't hesitate.

"Over 15,000 hours of combined experience in every single session."

Clay target shooting is a thrilling sport where clay disks - called "clays" or "pigeons" - are launched through the air, and you use a shotgun to break them before they land. Think of it as golf with a shotgun: every station offers a new challenge, a new angle, and a new rush when you see that puff of orange dust.

Yes and no, and that is the beauty of it. Hitting your first clay is surprisingly easy - our instructors have a knack for getting beginners on target within the first few shots. Mastering the sport takes time, but every session brings progress and every broken clay feels like a win.

Not at all. We love taking absolute beginners. No license, no gear, no knowledge required - just enthusiasm. We walk you through how to hold the shotgun, how to stand, how to read the clay, and how to stay safe. Many of our 250+ regular members started exactly where you are now.

No, not if you hold the firearm correctly. The secret is tucking the shotgun firmly into your shoulder. Get the fit right and the recoil becomes a gentle push. We use lighter loads for beginners so your first experience is comfortable and confidence-building.
